Finding Your Stride

13 02 2014

Therefore then, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us,
Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Just think of Him Who endured from sinners such grievous opposition and bitter hostility against Himself [reckon up and consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you may not grow weary or exhausted, losing heart and relaxing and fainting in your minds. Hebrews 12:1-3

Hebrews 12_1_3

I don’t like to run. I was never really fast and distance running never appealed to me on any level. Despite this fact, I have always admired individuals who could do it. One of my friends in High School was on the track team. Running is in his blood. To this day, he posts his times on online some 30 years later. I imagine that this keeps him both fit and happy.
Lately, I have been trying to find a comfortable marathon pace for my life. It seems that for a good period I was busy, busy, busy. All my time was accounted for and sometimes hours that should have been set aside for sleep and exercise, just were absorbed with more busy work. Even though I saw myself moving forward during this period, it turns out most of it was an exercise of running in circles. Not really making progress on the things that matter most. God’s Word compels us to run with endurance keeping Jesus as our focus. Things that cause us to sin or to do things contrary to His word and will for our lives should be dropped. These are the things that weigh us down and hinder us from living the life God has available to us. Looking to Him gives us focus, gives us direction and helps us to find the stride that will help us to endure until we cross the finish line.

All these many people who have had faith in God are around us like a cloud. Let us put everything out of our lives that keeps us from doing what we should. Let us keep running in the race that God has planned for us. Let us keep looking to Jesus. Our faith comes from Him and He is the One Who makes it perfect. He did not give up when He had to suffer shame and die on a cross. He knew of the joy that would be His later. Now He is sitting at the right side of God. Sinful men spoke words of hate against Christ. He was willing to take such shame from sinners.

Think of this so you will not get tired and give up.

Hebrews 12:1-3 NLV

An Empowered Journey

For you are my rock and my fortress;
and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me; Psalms 31:3

When we follow God’s lead, our journey is blessed. As Leader, He knows everything about the creation of us and our individual purpose. His leading in our lives encourages and nudges us into blessed places and experiences we could not have imagined. He is God and He loves us. He knows and He is all powerful. He creates, transforms, renews and delivers our thinking to a new place with a new perspective. He can take our limited thinking and put us on new ground with the infusion of His Holy Spirit. We are so thankful for these blessings. We are so thankful that an empowered journey is available to each of us. Accepting Jesus in our lives fully is the first step. Let Him into our thinking and into our hearts. We can let Him into the big and small places of our everyday living. Walking in His steps permeates our lives with love, joy and peace. It creates opportunity for meaningful relationship with Him that overflows to the ones we love and the others that live on earth. He has created steps that lie ahead for each of us. It will take faith, courage and open heart to walk in His direction. The first step toward Him and where He is leading starts an amazing journey that we can travel today.

I will show you and teach you in the way you should go. I will tell you what to do with My eye upon you. Psalms 32:8

Our Faithful Father

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Lamentations 3:22-24

My heart is full of praise and thanksgiving for our Faithful Heavenly Father. He is faithful and just to remember His children. I woke up this morning with a reminder of His goodness and mercy toward me. It is a blessing not earned or even deserved but I am thankful for the relationship that grace has brought into my life. Early in my life as a young person with dreams I could not have imagined the blessings of my life today. I am so thankful to God for the blessings and the journey that has brought me thus far. The best part of our walk with Him is that there is yet more ahead. With our trust fully in Him, we walk in guided steps toward our purpose and victory. Be encouraged! God is so faithful to His children and I am thankful.

The Shepherd

6 02 2014

winter clear roadThe Lord is my shepherd;

I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;

He leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.

 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me. Psalm 23:1-4

We serve a capable Shepherd who knows His sheep.   He knows who we are, where we are and where we need to go.  He knows all about our beginnings and every challenge we have faced along the way.  He even knows the desires of our heart.  We don’t have to worry that He does not see us.  He is omnipresent in our world and even in the personal struggle in our hearts.  He sees it all.  Nothing comes as a surprise but some of our choices may grieve His heart.  He has asked us to trust Him.  Not a little bit, not when it is convenient but with our whole heart.  He has asked us to trust Him and to trust His Word.  He has asked us to be assured and to walk in faith that what His Word is a message of love.  A love that is powerful to cover whatever we are facing.  We can trust Him.  We can follow Him in faith and in love into our purpose.

Resiliency

5 02 2014

Snow Covered TreeHave I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.  Joshua 1:9 ESV

The power to rebound after a set-back requires courage and faith.  We need this level of constitution in our hearts and souls for everyday living.  The unexpected in our lives will at times bring events that are designed to make us feel defeated and discouraged… but God.   When we experience a set-back we may be tempted to stay where we are to nurse our wounds but know this is the time to get-up.  The Lord has given us the tools of hope, faith, courage and determination to stand up and try again when we experience failure. This is a time to muster more strength, more courage and more faith for our relationships, our health, our ministry and our work.  We may have missed the mark last time but recognize the God in us is bigger than the challenges that we face.  We are His children and we are called to be strong and courageous.  God loves us and He helps us to learn, grow and mature into our purpose.  God is working every detail in our lives together for our good.  This promise and assurance gives us the stamina to get up and start again.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

Come Closer

4 02 2014

Rose close

Come close to God and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners. Clean up your hearts, you who want to follow the sinful ways of the world and God at the same time. James 4:8 NLV

The Lord desires to have a close walk with His children. Any successful relationship needs nurturing and attention. We want our relationship with the Lord to be our top priority. This relationship provides the river of fulfillment for our best life. When we walk with the Lord closely, we can hear and follow His leading. The Holy Spirit can guide us into our purpose with strong and confident steps that move us forward. We all desire the blessings of peace, joy, happiness, health and contentment. They represent the same blessings that the Lord wants to provide for us. He will illuminate the path into His peace and His joy and His prosperity if we are seeking and listening for His guidance. The Holy Spirit in us can provide the answers we are seeking. If we are willing and adhere to what the Lord is saying, we can make the internal changes in our thinking and our ways that align to His will for our lives. We should seek to be closer to Him each day.
So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet. James 7-10 MSG

February

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:6

We are blessed to experience February, another segment of time to move forward in God. It’s a short cold month but yet another opportunity to put our faith and our focus into action. During the winter months, I like to stay under the covers and hibernate but there is no time to waste. God has given each of us something to do. It’s time to start putting things down on paper, researching the project, checking on our neighbor, registering for the class, making the call to a distant loved one or cleaning out the clutter in our lives. God is so good and so faithful. Even when we are at a lost as to next steps, He will guide us. The Holy Spirit will whisper ideas and plans to move us in the right direction. We may need to still ourselves to hear what the Lord is saying. It takes some effort to stilling our minds, our racing thoughts into a quite space of you and Him. But what a blessing to take time to pray, meditate and seek His direction. He is God and He loves us. I am planning to you use the month of February to come closer to God and where He wants me to be.

Winter Warmth

31 01 2014

And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:  I Thessalonians 3:12

This January was the coldest in recent memory.  It was a deep freeze that seemed to take up residence in most of the country for most of the month. I was thankful for the warmth of my home and the sun that has shined brightly through my windows for the last few days.  As we welcome February, we can be thankful for the blessings of a roof over our heads, the protection of our homes and the heat that keeps us warm.  We can give thanks to our Heavenly Father for giving us health, life and strength to weather snow, wind and ice.  He has provided for our needs and given us the opportunity to pray for those who are in need.  The winter months bring isolation for seniors, the disabled and many who are sick and unable to get out.  Even during these frigid days many were homeless or living in shelters.  Men, women, children and families are without a permanent place to call home.  It is a time for prayer, a time for gratefulness and a time to show love for those who need it. The warmth of God’s love can shine brightly through our smiles, our words and the work of our hands. However, we are able to help, whatever the Lord puts on our heart to do, we can move in faith and show the warmth of love to those who are in need.

Act II

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Watching a play production, the producers divide the story line into different “Acts” or segments. Each one may have its own unique stage setting, characters and theme for the story that is unfolding in front of the audience. We may go through similar phases in our lives, where each segment helps to advance our personal story to the next phase. As God’s children, we can be thankful along the way for our Father’s promises to us. First, we can be thankful that God does indeed have a plan. We are not a meaningless story line without purpose. We may not know how each individual phase in our lives fits all together but God knows and we can put our trust in Him. His plan and purpose come together into a beautiful story once we put our lives in His hands. I am also thankful for the cues that He provides that allows us to move to the next phase. It is a time of trusting, faith and courage and also anticipation of what the Lord has in store for us in the next Act.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20 NLT

Renewal Comes

29 01 2014

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 NLV

We thank God for renewed mind and spirit today. Jesus can bring a fresh wind in our hearts and minds that give us a renewed sense of purpose and the energy to move in His direction. It comes with a refreshed mind and eyes that can see with a grateful heart of His goodness, His grace and His mercy. We are so thankful that God is our Heavenly Father that can turn our difficult situations into opportunities to grow and to expand and to become the individuals that He is calling us to be. We may be going through a situation that seems long and arduous but there is an end that will come. The hurt will soften and heal, the answer will become clear and God will provide the grace and mercy for you to be able to move forward. We thank God for being the source of renewal and revival in our lives.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 NLV
