The Lord is my light and my salvation-

so why should I be afraid?

The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,

so why should I tremble? Psalm 27:1

We can be fearless in the Lord. Following His leading and His will keeps us in His covering that is the ultimate safe place. His protection is complete. We may have tendencies to worry and even have anxiety about the outcome of big or small situations that happen in our lives. These counterproductive responses don’t acknowledge the Great God that we serve. We can approach each situation with a deep trusting in Lord who is our fortress. One definition describes a fortress as an impossible place to get into. In Him, there is protection and a safe place for our minds, our bodies and our souls. And we are thankful.

Light, space, zest-

that’s God!

So, with him on my side I’m fearless,

afraid of no one and nothing.  Psalm 27:1 MSG

And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. I John 3:24

I read the words to this old hymn “Abide with Me” that is new to me. The words of the song describe a believer’s desire to abide with Lord; to stay in His presence throughout life’s challenges. The writer composed the words in 1847 but it has a timeless message about the Lord’s ability to stay with us even during troubling times. I believe it is a testament of the sustaining power of the Lord’s presence. If we abide, live or reside in the same place, with the Lord, it is a place of immeasurable blessing. I imagine the writer’s deep desire for God’s peace, His Love and His comfort to dwell inside of Him and His circumstance. Our passage today, reminds us of God’s ability to abide with us when we keep His commandments. It is our prayer for the Lord to abide with us and us with Him.

And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free before God! We’re able to stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we’re doing what he said, doing what pleases him. Again, this is God’s command: to believe in his personally named Son, Jesus Christ. He told us to love each other, in line with the original command. As we keep his commands, we live deeply and surely in him, and he lives in us. And this is how we experience his deep and abiding presence in us: by the Spirit he gave us. I John3:21-24 MSG
