Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou

stir up the gift of God,

which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

 but of power,

and of love,

and of a sound mind.

II Timothy 1:6-7

Something Good

6 01 2016

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

Moving Forward

5 01 2016

DSC_0288 (2)_Walking in Rome

I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.  Philippians 3:14

I’m moving forward is my affirmation for this year.  I am moving, I am pressing and I am making progress toward who God is calling me to be and what God is calling me to do.  I am focused on what is ahead.  I am not stuck in the past.  I am not nursing old wounds.  I am walking in forgiveness.  I am healed in my mind body and soul.  I am moving forward in Him.

My heart and my will are committed to doing the work to make it ahead; the daily prayer, reading His bible, and heeding the Holy Spirit throughout the day.  I am not hindered by the distractions of the world.  I am not wasting precious time.  I am moving forward in Him.

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.  Philippians 3:12-14

Tis So Sweet

4 01 2016

Barcelona 2013 032 Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, and to take him at his word; just to rest upon his promise, and to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!

 Hymn Louisa M. R. Stead

It is sweet and a blessing beyond measure to have our trust in the Lord. We can trust God as we begin a new year, a new week and a new day.  He is unfailing in His promise to be our refuge and our source of strength.  We can look to Him to lead and guide us through the labyrinth of life.  He will help us to make good decisions as we listen carefully for his guidance.  We can trust the Holy Spirit to be a constant source of leading toward our purpose.  It is so sweet to trust in Jesus.  We are nurturing and growing our faith in Him today and the year to follow.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6

For All God Has Done

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!

Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.

Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.

Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing.

Then the God of peace will be with you.  Philippians 4:4-9

My heart is full of thanksgiving as this year comes to a close. God blessed us to survive and thrive during a full year.  The Lord was faithful to be with us.  He surrounded us with His presence that kept your hearts and minds even during the unthinkable.  He kept me. That thought alone leaves me so humbled and grateful.  He kept me from falling down and falling a part.  He kept me. His presence enveloped me and kept me standing.  I am thanking Him for what He has already done.  He has kept me and I am thankful.

Take Your Everday, Ordinary Life

A good time to submit my life to Him.

crocus snowSo here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.  Romans 12:1-2 MSG

God brings out the best in me when I submit my life fully to Him.  A submitted life in His hands can take the good, the bad and the ugly and transform it into a life…

Loose Ends

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace1 as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13

We have just a few more days before we turn the page and enter a new year. This will be a time of reflection as we think of all of things that were accomplished, the peaks that were celebrated and the valleys that we survived.  We may have had a to-do list for the year.  Some things that we can happily check off and then other items may have to go on next year’s list.  But in the closing days of this year, we may have a few loose ends that we can complete before we welcome the New Year.  We can be careful not to take the weight of unforgiveness and bitterness into the future.  We can nurture gratitude and thankfulness for the many blessings that surround our lives.  We can set the foundation of faith, hope and joy in our hearts and minds for the year to come.  We can open our hearts to God and His Son Jesus Christ to welcome Him fully into our lives.  The New Year is upon us.  Let us tie up any loose ends we may have in our hearts and prepare with great expectation for the year ahead.

We Need His Light

In the beginning the Word already existed.  The Word was with God, and the Word was God.He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.     John 1:1-9

March 2013 Picture IPhone 323We need His light to shine in darkness, wherever it may be found. Dark decisions, dark emotions, dark behavior – we need His light. We are so thankful that His light can bring brightness and life wherever it exists. We live in a time where darkness is celebrated despite the strife it creates. His light brings peace and true life. We thank God for the power and brightness of His son Jesus Christ. We ask that His light shine in our souls, in our thoughts, in our decisions and our behavior so that we may experience His peace and demonstrate His love to all that we meet.

Jesus is the Light, Light of the World. Jesus is the Light, Light of the World

Jesus is the Light, Light of the World. He is forever shining in my soul.

Fully Present

21 12 2015

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalm 90:12

I am often in two places at once. My body is present in this time and space but often my mind has moved on to another place.  My thoughts are racing from one situation to the next.  Being in two places at once often robs me of the blessing of now.  This holiday season I want to experience family, friends and each person I meet; taking time to be fully present in their company.  It will take some focused effort on my part.  I want to listen and share with my parents, my siblings and their children.  I want to wrap my arms around my husband and daughter.  I want to be fully present in their presence. I am so blessed and I am so thankful.  I want to experience these blessings one at a time.
