All Praises

23 08 2012

The Lord has made the heavens his throne;

from there he rules over everything.

Praise the Lord, you angels,

you mighty ones who carry out his plans,

listening for each of his commands.

Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels

who serve him and do his will!

Praise the Lord, everything he has created,

everything in all his kingdom.

Let all that I am praise the Lord.

Psalm 103:19-22

Our creator is worthy of our praise. Some places in the world give me a vivid picture of God, His power and His faithfulness by witnessing His creations. It is hard to sit by any ocean and not think about the magnitude of the waves, its constant motion and its age and not think about the creator. Exploring the Grand Canyon makes it easy to wonder, what happened here to cause these great walls of seemingly timeless rock. And there are more common place wonders, like blooming flowers, rabbits in my backyard and the beautiful feathers of birds. All of these things when we consider their creation causes me to think about how Great is the Creator. We can be thankful to God for these blessings. And bless His Holy name with all of our Praise.

Everlasting Love

22 08 2012

But from everlasting to everlasting, the Lord’s mercy is on those who fear him.

His righteousness belongs to their children and grandchildren,

to those who are faithful to his promise,

to those who remember to follow his guiding principles.

Psalms 103:17-18 GWT

God’s love for us extends to us now and well into the future. His righteousness is available to us and will be a blessing to our families for generations to come. Many of us are benefiting from generational blessings that extend from our family members who have gone before us living for the Lord. I think of the legacy of my parents and grandparents and their parents who have established a foundation of faith that we can continue to build on. I am hoping that my generation of parents will continue to bestow a legacy of faith based on the knowledge and reverence of God’s word and that our children will be able to share His light throughout the world. It is a tremendous gift to know that our blessings of faith can be extended to our children and our children’s children through our life of faith and their acceptance of His promise.

Dear Father –

We thank You for this day which is filled with Your promise to be with us each step of the way. We are grateful for the blessing of family and for those who came before us putting their full faith in You. We thank You for your continued guidance by Your Holy Spirit to be examples of faith and righteousness before our families. We thank You for answered prayer concerning the lives of our children and our grandchildren. We pray for open hearts and minds for the gift of salvation and a blessed life in You. We are so thankful for Your love which extends from everlasting to everlasting.

In Jesus powerful Name,

Amen.

Constant Love

21 08 2012

The Lord is merciful and loving, slow to become angry and full of constant love.

He does not keep on rebuking;  he is not angry forever.

He does not punish us as we deserve or repay us according to our sins and wrongs.

As high as the sky is above the earth, so great is his love for those who honor Him.

As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us.

As a father is kind to his children, so the Lord is kind to those who honor Him.

Psalm 103:8-13

We are so blessed to have a Heavenly Father who loves us. His ultimate gift of His son Jesus Christ allows us to live in relationship with Him. Some people think of God as someone who sits high and looks for things that we have done wrong. This distorted picture does not reflect a God that is “slow to anger”.   God may hate the sin that we may allow in our lives but His approach to us is full of constant love. I believe how we think about God guides our actions, our fulfillment and the happiness in our lives. If you accept the fact that our Father is available to us and provides grace and mercy because He loves us, it changes our perspective on life. His love for us is great! Knowing this in our hearts and continually seeking to do His will in our lives allow us to experience a closer walk in the Lord. What a blessing to know that God is love and that this tremendous gift is available to each of us.

Dear Father –

We thank you for this day. We bless your name for you are the living God that loves us. We ask that you would forgive us for any place where sin and shortcomings may exist in our lives. We know that your love for us is constant and that you are faithful and just to forgive us, when we ask for it. We thank you today for forgiveness and a closer walk with you.   Help us to experience and embrace your constant love for us.

In Jesus’ wonderful name,  Amen

Total Praise

20 08 2012

I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. Psalms 34:1

The “I will” portion of this scripture reflects a personal decision and acknowledgment to give praise to the One who is so worthy of all the praise. We can approach each day and each situation with praises to the Lord on our lips and in our heart. We serve a Heavenly Father whose love for us is beyond our understanding. He loves us and has given us both grace and mercy, as we welcome another day. I am thankful this day for God’s goodness and faithfulness to me and to all of His children. We are praying for His continued leading and that every aspect of me, my thoughts, my words and the fruit of my hands will be used for His glory. We will have His praises on our lips and His songs in our hearts throughout this day and the days to come.

Renewal

17 08 2012

He fills my life with good things.

My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Psalm 103:5

A renewed vision and strength for your life is essential for survival today. Our lives are sprinkled with challenges that could easily weigh us down.  And some situations feel like that they could easily take us out, if it were not for the Savior.  But our God is merciful.  Our Father desires to fill our lives with good things.   I am praying for God’s renewing spirit to abide with each of His children and provide the love, peace, joy, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness and self-control needed for today and the days to come.   We want to soar with the strength and vision of an eagle

Difficult Love

16 08 2012

You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy.  But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!   In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.  For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.   Matthew 5:43-45

We are to love everyone even our enemies. It sounds like a tall order. This command includes people we don’t care for and people who maybe even trying to harm us, which sounds like an insurmountable task. We may say in our hearts in a very wide Agape sense that we love everyone. We don’t wish anyone harm and we hope everyone the best. This is the high level psychological framework that we allow ourselves when we think of this command. But then the hard work of daily living comes into play. We may have to cross paths with people who are mean, use harsh words or “despitefully use” us. And suddenly, loving others is a distant memory. So there lies the challenge not only to get along with others but to love them. I believe that these encounters allow us to see a little of ourselves and possibly expose areas that require more work in our hearts and minds. We may be required to be less offended by daily mishaps, to be more forgiving, or to have more mercy or compassion toward one another. It is our command from the Savior to do, so that the world will see the light in us.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  This is real love-not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. I John 4:7-10

Too Short

15 08 2012

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalm 90:12

We often approach life as if we have an unlimited amount of time to live here on earth. When the difficult truth is that we do have a span of time that will eventually end to hopefully see Heaven. I received a jolting reminder this week with the loss of a friend. It was a jolt because I had not known how sick she had become. It was a jolt because I had a card in my bag that I had meant to send weeks ago. I thought what a loss to our circle of friends and to her family. She will be missed. I also thought what kind of person does not send even a card.

Earthly life is shorter than we imagine when we consider eternity. So the scripture today invites us to seek wisdom about how to best use our time here on earth. I am hoping to start by getting my priorities in order; making sure that I am doing the things that the Lord puts my hands to do; providing love and encouragement to people I meet along the path way; and doing the things that will not allow me to collect the baggage of hard feelings and unforgiveness along the way.  I am praying for more wisdom about how to use my time and energy during my time here.

God Knows and God Cares

14 08 2012

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.  Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.  I Peter 5:6-7

We are so blessed to have a God who is omnipresent and all powerful. Our Heavenly Father knows all about what we experience each day. I am doubtful that we can add any knowledge to Him regarding our circumstances. He knows all about what we are experiencing and even the desires of our heart. We can give God praise and gratitude for who He is in our lives. We can demonstrate our confidence in Him concerning His abilities and His love for us. We can stand firmly on His word increasing both our faith and our trust in Him to work it all out on our behalf. We can do our part in working diligently to complete every step that follows His instruction. God knows and He cares for each one of us. We can walk in this promise today and forever more.

Joy Comes in the Morning

13 08 2012

Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones!

Praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime!
Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.   Psalm 30-4-5

Joyful days are a blessing. I am so thankful that the Lord provides gladness that is based on the recognition of who He is in our lives. We may have “night” experiences where it seems that tears and uncertainty are the norm but our Heavenly Father is faithful to provide a new supply of mercy with the rising of the sun to allow us to experience His joy.   Joy is a powerful healer for hurt and pain. His Joy provides strength for us to endure despite difficult circumstances. I am thankful for His Joy, His goodness and His mercy toward me.

…for the joy of the LORD is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10b

Tender Mercies

10 08 2012

He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. Psalm 103:4

I think about how we are kept safe from death and destruction as we live according to His word.  My life without Him was dark with destructive decisions and living. We are so thankful for His provision of love, mercy and redemption that allows us to live in His light.

Our life with the Lord is full of blessings.  He provides protection and gives us love and tender mercies that can’t be earned but are available to us freely.   As His child, we receive daily doses of both love and mercy that is renewed daily from an everlasting reservoir.  I am thankful for this marvelous blessing in our lives.

Dear Father –

We are so thankful for the blessing of today.  We thank you for the gifts of redemption, love and mercy that are available to each of us.  We pray for those who are in need of these gifts in their lives.  We pray for that grace and mercy will allow them to see you clearly as the Father and the free gift of salvation through your son, Jesus Christ.  We ask for faithful servants to cross their paths who will be effective witnesses for them to experience a life with you. We are thankful for the blessing of added souls to your Kingdom.  These things we ask, in Jesus name.   Amen.
