Peace on the Journey

IMG_0182You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!  Isaiah 26:3

Our Heavenly Father is able to keep us in perfect peace. Peace is a place of balance, contentment and acknowledgement in our mind and soul of the God we serve.  It is not a place of worry, fretting or even wondering how things will turn out.  Peace emanates from our full trust in God.  Peace replaces any discord when we fully recognize what it means to be His child. This passage has two conditions for achieving a place of perfect peace.  It is for all who trust in the Lord.  Trust requires full faith and confidence in the Lord and His love for us. We must trust Him.  We must keep our mind on the Lord.  The world is full of distraction – problems and challenges.  It is easy to allow our minds to wander from one issue to the next.  These mindless thought patterns can easily fill our lives with anxiety if we allow it.  Instead we are called to keep our minds on Jesus.  We are called to think about things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and excellent.  Then peace will follow.  Our Heavenly Father is able to keep us in perfect peace – as we trust Him and keep our focus on Him.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

What’s Ahead – He promised to Meet Every Need

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

He promised to meet every need.  Our Heavenly Father promised to provide for our needs.  A great spiritual leader, Bishop Walter Jordan described every use of the word “shall” in the Bible, as loaded.  Shall is a strong word of commitment, promise and assurance that it will happen.  We don’t have to wonder or fear if our needs will be met.  God will meet the need for the various aspects of our lives.  He is Jehovah Jireh, God our Provider.  We can thank God now for needs being met concerning our finances, our health, our relationships and our souls.  He is working everything together for our good. He promised to meet every need and we are thankful.

What’s Ahead – He will show us the Way

IMG_1179Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

He will show us the way forward.  A guide is always useful when you need directions.  We have all kinds of gadgets, tools and mobile apps that can give us the travel directions from point A to point B.  We have GPS systems that interact with satellites that tell us exactly where we are on earth and how to get to where we need to go.  The technology is amazing and way beyond the atlas and paper maps that was our source for directions for centuries.

We will need a road map for what’s ahead. Life’s journey continues and we will need a reliable, trustworthy source to keep us on the right track.   “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  This familiar Psalm is a reminder and an assurance that the Word of God is the ultimate guidebook for our lives.  It gives us the “turn by turn” instructions for our steps’ moving forward. At times we may be perplexed about how to move ahead.  Seeking Him first in our situations, reading the Bible, sets the stage for knowing which way to go.  Our God is faithful to send the right guidance, the right provision at the right time to move onward in our journey. He will show us the way forward and we are thankful.

What’s Ahead – He is with us

Be strong and courageous. Don’t fear or tremble before them, because the LORD your God will be the one who keeps on walking with you—he won’t leave you or abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:6

He will be with us for the road ahead. He promised never to leave us or forsake us.  His presence is the ultimate blessing.  The promise is not for a smooth ride without problems but something much more.  There may be some bumps in the road but He said He would be with us.  We may have some setbacks, detours but He said that we are not alone.  God’s presence in any life, in any situation changes it into something for our good.  We can stand confident and be thankful that His transformative love and power would be with us every step of the way.    On the journey there are still waters.  He provides respite of our souls.  His presence provides peace and joy as we travel along the way.  What a tremendous blessing…  What a source of encouragement that our Heavenly Father will be with us always. He will be with us for the road ahead and we are thankful.

What’s Ahead – Trusting Him

7 10 2014

IMG_1179Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.  Proverbs 3:5-6

We can never be sure of what tomorrow holds. Life’s journey can have its twists and turns with some murky stretches of road where we can’t see ahead.  This is a time for nurturing faith, mustering all of our strength and remembering what we know for sure…

We can trust God. We can take our whole lives – the relationships, the finances, our family, our health – and put it squarely in His Hands.  In our Heavenly Father’s Hands, our lives and the steps ahead can be molded and guided into His purpose.  His track record is perfect.  He never fails.  We have witnessed His work in our lives all along the journey thus far.  He has transformed the impossible into victory.  He has created beauty out of brokenness.  He has provided healing to our lives in ways we could not have imagined.  He is our Heavenly Father and we can fully trust Him.  We can trust Him for guided next steps big and small. We can Trust Him for what is ahead.

Commit everything you do to the Lord.   Trust him, and he will help you. Psalms 37:5

A New Season

6 10 2014

Backyard Fall BloomThere is a special time for everything. There is a time for everything that happens under heaven. There is a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pick what is planted. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

At one time, I had a large Maple tree in my backyard. It was more expansive in width than it was tall with limbs and branches that made a beautiful display of God’s creativity throughout the year. It gave me hints of the upcoming season. As we transition from summer to autumn, sometime in late August or September, I could usually spot one leaf that had traded its green color for red or yellow. It was a sure sign to me that we were soon to feel cooler weather and that a new season was upon us.

New seasons in nature or new seasons in our walk with the Lord are a blessing. As the seasons change, we can anticipate different experiences, different opportunities for growth, maturity and blessings as God’s children. I am thankful that a new season is upon us. It is natural and spiritual time of harvest. We can look to see results from continual planting of seeds of faith, peace and love. We can experience the benefits from approaching our decisions with a yielded spirit to God’s will. We can see how God was moving on our behalf even when His favor and power were not visible with the naked eye throughout the season of planting. But in this new season, we can see his marvelous blessings in its entire splendor and we are thankful.

Open Heart and Minds

3 10 2014

Sun RaysTrust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.  Proverbs 3:5-6 (Message)

We often come to making big decisions loaded with preconceived notions about what is best for our lives. We take all of our experiences, what we think we know and our feelings and collectively they influence what we desire for an outcome. We may pray earnestly for God’s will in our lives to be done around this particular outcome not fully recognizing that our Heavenly Father is all knowing and able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think. What if we were to approach each situation with an open heart and mind about God’s grace and ability to lead us and to make full provision for the path that is chosen? Yielding our hearts creates space for God to show us His superior plan. Surrendering what we think we know to the Father, who is all knowing, allows His perfect plan for our lives to reach clarity in our vision. When we seek His leading first without all the baggage of what we think is possible, it opens our eyes to a limitless God. Let us open our hearts and our minds to His vision and His plans for our lives.

Live Full Lives

29 09 2014

Crew (48 of 86)My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love.

Reach out and experience the breadth!

Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! \

Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Glory to God in the church! Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus! Glory down all the generations! Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!

Ephesians 3:14-21 MSG

A Present Help

25 09 2014

IMG_2082God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.

Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!

A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
The nations are in chaos,
    and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
    and the earth melts!
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.

Psalm 46:1-7

God’s Best

18 09 2014

NSun Raysow unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Ephesians 3:20

Many of us approach life with some knowledge, a portion of common sense and hopefully a good dose of wisdom. Armed with these components, we often think we can move forward in making good decisions. We try to figure what to do, how to do it and even when to make the right moves. We pray and ask for His leading and sometimes His favor in opening the right opportunities for our lives. We remember His word in Proverbs, “In all thy ways acknowledge Him, He shall direct they path.” And God is faithful to hear our prayer and is also faithful to who He is as God. Despite our best thinking we know that God’s thinking is above all. His ways are above and beyond all that we can ask or think. We may think that He is moving on our behalf in one way and then He moves in a way that is best that might be totally different than we can ever imagine. I am so thankful to God for his unlimited ability to work in us and on our behalf. He is able to bless us with His Best.

God can do anything, you know-far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.  Ephesians 3:20 MSG
