Shine On…..

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. “This Little Light of Mine” is a timeless children’s favorite. The song has several familiar verses reminding us about the importance of letting our light shine. It is a vital message for the young and the old in today’s dark world. Just imagine if everyone were committed to being a light in their homes, work and relationships. What if we used our words to build people up, being a positive influence and eliminated complaining? Just as natural sunlight penetrates the darkness of night when the sun rises, it would transform the world we know.

Speak Life

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. Proverbs 18:21

What we say and think are powerful influences in our lives. Every day we have to choose whether to say what we think or what God says about the situations in our lives. Our thoughts are often limited by our human understanding but genuine revelation comes from God. My pastor has asked what the world would be like if God’s people were consistently and constantly speaking God’s words. What an outpouring of love, concern, peace and hope would be evident throughout the world. Speak God’s words and speak life.

Keep Pushing

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 3:12-14

I can’t give up now. My future is ahead. If I keep putting one foot in front of the other, it won’t be long before I will be in another place and time. So we keep pushing. We keep seeking God’s direction. We keep listening for His voice for the next steps and plans. We keep trusting that His instruction is working everything together for our good. Every step of the way, we are centered in His love. Every step we can trust Him and experience His peace. I am pushing on.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5- 6

All in Love

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. John 13:34

I am compelled to love all people. God so loved the world that He gave us the gift of Jesus. What amazing love He has for us. This is an example of love that we can emulate in our daily living. We can love one another. We can choose to love everyone, even our enemies. It is difficult, intentional work to choose love. Our feelings, our experiences, our bias often stand in the way. People who seem strange or differ from our thinking require some heart work. It takes an acknowledgement that we are all human. I am made of flesh, blood, hope and dreams. My neighbor next door and my neighbor across the world is the same. We are all human. We are all invited to put our differences away and to see our shared humanity. It’s a first step toward all in Love. We are compelled to love all people.

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matthew 5:44

One Day at a Time

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

I need to take things one day at a time. My focus should be on today and not worry about what may be way down the road and not in my control. God created this day, this time and place. I can have confidence of the love, grace and peace that will surround me today. I am nurturing my faith and trusting my Creator to be with me. Challenges will come but I am not alone. Opportunities will come to share my love with others, I will respond with an open heart. This is the day that God created. I can approach it with thanksgiving, love and anticipation of everything that it will bring.
