Guide My Feet

14 08 2015

walking feetTrust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.   Proverbs 3:5-6 (New Living Translation)

Guide my feet, while I run this race – cause I don’t want to run this race in vain.  On life’s journey we have to make many decisions. Each step of the way, we are compelled to ask God to direct our steps based on His will for our lives.  This scripture and the words to this old spiritual are recognition of the importance of God’s leading in our lives.  Even though we may be tempted or convinced to do what we feel is right in our hearts, if it is not aligned with God’s word or His direction, we must think again.  Yielded to His will, we are able to make Godly decisions that create the blessed life He intends for each of us.

Guide my feet, while I run this race – cause I don’t want to run this race in vain

Hold my hand, while I run this race – cause I don’t want to run this race in vain.

At All Times

10 08 2015

I will praise the Lord at all times.

I will constantly speak his praises.

DSC_0513I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart.

Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.

I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.

He freed me from all my fears.

Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.

For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need.

Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

Psalm 34: 1-10NLT

Forever Love

14 07 2015

HydrangeasForever Love

The LORD is good; his love is eternal and his faithfulness lasts forever. Psalms 100:5

God’s love for us lasts forever. Forever is continually, persistently, incessantly, constantly and always. Other words help us to wrap our minds around this blessing from God that will last for eternity. His love for us gave the World the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. This gift of love made a way for us to experience salvation and to be in relationship with Him. We are so thankful for His love and the abundance – peace, joy, healing – that comes into our lives as we serve Him. God is good. He is faithful. And His love for us is forever.

Our Point of Need

9 07 2015

Sun RaysAnd my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 NIV

I am so thankful that the Lord meets us right at our point of need. Whatever we may be facing, the Lord knows about it and is able and willing to provide for us.  He is Jehovah Jireh, Our Provider.  His blessings come in both in tangible and intangible means.  My heart is full of thanks for His provision of strength, revival and encouragement. He can encourage our hearts and give us the wisdom to move in the right direction.  At times we can feel a little over whelmed by the demands of the days ahead but the Holy Spirit will remind us that we can make it in Him.  He sends people across your path with the words and deeds that help us in ways we could not have imagined.  We are never alone.  We can look to our Savior for His help.  He is so faithful and I am so thankful.

Peace

30 06 2015

DSCF0398Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

We can have peace that surpasses all understanding. It is a peace that comes from God. He can provide the serenity and a calm that does not depend on the circumstance of the day. Whatever we are facing, we can turn to the Lord in prayer. We can share what is in our hearts and leave our concerns in His powerful and capable hands. With thanksgiving, we can give praises to God for all that He has done. Our passage for today reminds us that after prayer and thanksgiving, we CAN experience God’s peace. His peace can arrive in the midst of a storm, in the middle of sickness and even when our hearts are broken. We can be thankful for this promise. It gives us hope and builds our faith that peace is not elusive and beyond what we can have now. His peace is transformative. It takes our level of thinking that may be filled with anxiety, worry and angst and creates serenity that is based in faith and His love. We need His peace in our hearts so that we can share it with the world. It can start in me today. Experience His peace.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. Philippians 4:6-7 MSG

Our God of Perfect Peace

24 06 2015

2014-08-24 20.02.01Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.  Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.

Isaiah 26:3-4

We seek peace in our hearts, minds and souls. I am so thankful that we serve a God that keeps us in a state of peace even when difficulties come to our door. This internal peace has a strong sustaining power despite the unfathomable. We experience it when we keep our minds on the Father. We want to fix our minds on all of His goodness, all of His righteousness and all of His power. We see the power of our focus in the scriptures in Isaiah 26:3-4 and also in Philippians 4:8-9. We can fix our thoughts on things that are true, honorable, pure, lovely and excellent in exchange for our problems and our shortcomings. Our God is faithful to provide peace, when we focus on His goodness and put our trust in Him.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4: 8-9

Wednesday Evenings

18 06 2015

Like many places of worship my home church has Bible Study on Wednesday nights.  It is a special time of sharing with our Pastor about the Bible, its meaning and purpose in our lives.  It is a discussion and journey of seeking to understand all that the Holy Scripture has available to God’s people. Our church, like other churches spend Wednesday nights seeking, learning and exploring the rich treasure of the Bible.

This morning my heart is heavy, thinking about the men and women gathered for Bible Study at the Emanuel African-Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. On a Wednesday evening, they gathered for studying God’s Word and 9 people lost their lives to senseless violence; a Pastor and parishioners murdered by gun fire. My heart is heavy.  There will be no plausible explanation except that evil and hate is a pervasive sickness that continues to kill and destroy.  Even during this morning of mourning, I think of the families, friends of the victims and the whole congregation and the stinging grief that has come to their community. I also wonder about the power of love and how it can take even this tragedy and transform it into something for our good.  I am thankful that even in the midst of the unthinkable, we can turn our hearts and minds to God.  We can seek peace and understanding in prayer.  We can pray for each person impacted by this tragedy and that peace and love will surround this South Carolina community.  So we pray….

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.

II Corinthians 1:3-5.

Sunrise of hopeTrust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.  Proverbs 3:5-6 (Message)

I am submitting my heart and hopes to the Lord.  My Heavenly Father loves me and cares for me so I know my heart is in good hands.  I submit my dreams and aspirations to the One who has defined my purpose.  He leads and guides my steps into a blessed destiny.  He is weaving the details of my life into something good and I am grateful.  My submission of my life is an act of faith.  It is an act of complete trust in our loving God.  I am submitting everything to Him.

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.  Romans 8:26-28 MSG
