Strength for Today

18 04 2011

Don’t be sad because the joy you have in the Lord is your strength.   Nehemiah 8:10

A new day brings with it a new opportunities for a whole new set of experiences. Occasionally, I have finished a day that was full of the unexpected.  Something happened that may have resulted in a series of events that I could not have even imagined. This is the nature of life and living.

Setting “the stage” or “our mindset” for each day can provide the strength or the endurance needed to make it through whatever the day brings.   If we approach each day with praises on our lips for our faithful Father, thanksgiving in our hearts for His goodness and rejoicing in our spirit for His peace and His love, it will help us to endure. It will help us to respond to the day’s events in faith and in love. It will remind us that Jesus is faithful to be with us each step of the way. The joy of the Lord is our strength.

HIS Faithful Love

15 04 2011

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.  Psalm 118:1

God is a faithful Father, who has been so good to each of us. I woke up this morning thinking of His goodness to me. I am so blessed, in so many ways due to His love, grace and mercy toward me. What a blessing to have a relationship with God that is rooted in a love that will last forever. My heart is full with thanksgiving for His faithful love to me.

Don’t Look Back

14 04 2011

Brothers and sisters, I can’t consider myself a winner yet.  This is what I do: I don’t look back, I lengthen my stride, and I run straight toward the goal to win the prize that God’s heavenly call offers in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:12-13

Have you ever walked with a small child who is not focused on where you are going? You may be trying to get to a destination but even though you are walking hand in hand you notice that the child is looking behind. It makes the walk more difficult and requires more effort until the toddler decides to focus on where you both are traveling instead of where you have been. This situation reminded me of my sometimes difficult walk in life when I dwell on things in the past. Focusing on the future is a hard task when we decide we fix our attention on things that are behind us. We cannot change what has already happened. While I can’t relive it, I can ask the Lord to help me with how I feel about it. I can ask and receive forgiveness from Him. I can give forgiveness to another who may have caused harm. We can even ask the Lord about wisdom that we don’t repeat mistakes. Each of these steps is a part of a turning motion to focus on our future. God has such an exciting future for each of us when we are fully focused on the prize that lies ahead. Decide today to turn our attention on the path in front of us and don’t look back.

A Present Help

13 04 2011

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;  Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.    Psalm 46: 1- 3

We serve a strong and loving God.  He provides for our needs even in the midst of trouble.  I am so thankful that God is there to help us even when problems arise.  We may be going through some things where it appears that we may not make it.  Be assured that it might feel like it and on face value things may seem insurmountable but we serve a strong and merciful God.  Stand firm in your trust in the Lord.  Even when the landscape all around us may be changing, we can live without fear.   We can put our trust in Him as a strong place of safety.   He is our refuge and our strength.

With All Our Hearts

12 04 2011

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.  Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.  Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.  Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.   Proverbs 3:5-8

I am so thankful for this day.  What a blessing to have another opportunity to live and experience what God has prepared for me.  I am so glad that even though today may contain the unexpected we can know in our hearts that He will be with us every step of the way.  We can go to Him for wisdom and direction.  He will provide for our needs.  We can trust Him with all of our hearts.

The Center of His Will‏

11 04 2011

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit.  All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.    Colossians 1:9 -10

Growing up, I would often hear the people of God testify that I want to be found in the center of His will.  As an adult, I have a great appreciation for this powerful desire for our lives.  I imagine the center is to walk in the middle of God’s love, peace, joy and will for our lives.   This is a safe place of clarity and vision for me.  Here, my heart and mind are aligned with God’s purpose for me.  Here, my words and my actions reflect His word.  Here, I am focused on His will and not straying from Him.

Dwelling there takes building on my relationship with God through prayer, meditation and studying His word.  Here, I am able to dwell in His presence and to walk boldly in the path that God has established for me.  My desire is to stay in this place of strength and safety each day.

Speak HIS Word

8 04 2011

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.   John 1

My pastor preached about the victory is in my mouth a few years back. The message was about the awesome power we have as believers to speak life into what our seemingly dead situations.  It was a powerful message then and now:

  • We want to always speak things that reflect God’s word.
  • We need to pray God’s Word that is full of promises to us.
  • We need to speak about the answer and not the problem.
  • Say the answer so that you can visualize it.
  • As you speak these things, apply your faith. Believe God

Many of us are in situations that we want to speak and believe God’s word whether it is in our homes, in our jobs and even our health. We believe that God’s word is a restorer, a way maker, a peacemaker, a wisdom provider and the perfect healer. God is so faithful to honor His word. Together, let us speak victory with our mouths, hearts and minds in every area of our lives.

Perfecting

7 04 2011

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.  Philippians 1:6

Sometimes we feel so far from where we need to be in the various roles we play in life.  We seek to be a good friend, parent, spouse or we spend hours each day to meet the mark in our careers.  We may make a bad decision. We may say things we don’t mean or despite our best intentions things just don’t end up like we desired.  All or even a combination of these things makes us wonder if we are even moving in the right direction.  But thank God for His grace and His mercy in our lives.  As we seek His wisdom and His righteousness, we will continue to be in a process of perfecting until the day of Jesus Christ.

Changing Your Mind

6 04 2011

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  Romans 12:2

The way we think about ourselves and our situations is a powerful force in our lives.  It may be that we spend a great deal of time focused on negativity about ourselves and those around us.   This practice often leads to destructive thoughts that lead to poor actions.  I am so thankful to God for the blessing of His Word and His Spirit that can help us to think in brand new ways.  We may be tired or frustrated by where we find ourselves in life today but God can help us to renew our thinking.  He can help us to start again by adopting a thought life that is based on His will for our lives.  With open arms, God is always available to us to no matter where we think we are in life.

I often pray for renewal for my mind and my thinking.  I need a fresh approach and energy for living each day that is based on God’s word and His will for me.  A simple prayer of thanksgiving, repentance and acceptance of His spirit and love to abide in us can be a powerful new start.  He is so faithful to meet us where we are and to help us to begin again with a changed mind.

I dedicate this day to YOU

4 04 2011

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Dear Father:    I dedicate this day to You.  Today is such a precious gift.  I am so thankful for waking up with a mind to serve You.  I seek to honor Your gift with holy and honorable living.  I want my words, my thoughts and my actions to reflect Your love for me.  I will keep praises on my lips and thanksgiving in my heart. With a glad heart I will serve You. I dedicate this day to You.

Amen
