Right Paths

2 05 2011

He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.     Psalm 23:3b  (New Living Translation)

Getting from point A to point B usually involves making a series of steps. Travel is easier when the path is familiar or when the road is paved smooth by those before us. Unchartered waters are more difficult; we may feel hopelessly lost or we may have the heart of an explorer but in each case it requires faith to keep moving forward. I am so thankful that our faithful Shepherd is available to guide us along life’s journey. The leading of His Spirit guides us according to His righteousness into His perfect will for our lives. Our thinking alone not based on His Word, often results in an unnecessary detour or unproductive wandering. I am so glad that wherever we are on our personal journey that God is able to meet us right where we are, once we open our hearts to Him. We need His guidance each day to travel along the right path.

Renewal

29 04 2011

He renews my strength.  Psalm 23:3a   (New Living Translation)

God is so merciful to allow us to experience life in manageable doses.  The 24 hours in a day, seven days in a week and the changing of the season, each allow us to see the beginning and the end of time spans in our lives.  At times, we experience seasons of joy and others seem to burden our hearts.  The loss of loved ones, the tragedy of communities and the general elevated stress that seems to come with living in this day are challenges to building our faith.

Rest and renewal are essential for our survival. I am so grateful for the refreshed supply of mercies that come with the new day. God renews our strength. He restores our soul.

Peaceful Streams

28 04 2011

He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.    Psalm 23: 2    (New Living Translation)

One of my favorite past times is to sit near water.  It has a calming effect for me just to watch water move along its natural path.  I have spent many days just sitting, reading or sleeping next to the ocean.  Despite its strength, the consistency of the waves are a reminder of God’s power and majesty.   We are blessed that God creates such beautiful spaces across His earth.

I am so often so busy being busy that I don’t take enough time to witness His beauty and find a soothing place for my mind and soul.  I am asking God to lead me to more places that provide rest and peace as I continue on life’s journey.

All that We Need

27 04 2011

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.  Psalm 23: 1 (New Living Translation)

Our walk with Jesus is a blessed journey.  The Word of God provides so many assurances about His promises to us as His children.  As we walk with Him, He is faithful to provide for all that we need.  I want this truth to become a core part of me and I how I live my life.  As a Good Shepherd, He orders and guides my steps.  I can trust He has prepared me for whatever is next.  I can have faith that whatever I am facing today and in the days to come that He will provide for each need.  Walking confidently in these truths empowers me to live fearlessly according to His purpose for my life.  After all, we have all that we need.

I am safe in the Lord

26 04 2011

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.    Proverbs 18:10

Dear Father-

I am safe in the Lord.  You provide protection for every aspect of my life.  My family, my health and Your many blessings to me are safe in You.  I will not walk in fear but I will have confidence in Your shield of protection.  I will live in peace and a blessed assurance that Your name is a strong tower.  Thank You for providing a refuge and a place of protection for me.

I am safe in the Lord.

In Jesus Name –

Amen

HE Sees it All

25 04 2011

And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.  St. Luke 7:13

Sometimes we feel that we are experiencing a personal struggle, hurt or problem that the world does not understand.  We may shed tears and feel that we are alone in our pain.  I am so thankful for God, who is all knowing and full of mercy.  This passage has at least two important reminders:

One, that He sees us.  He is aware of everything concerning us.  Our ups, our downs, and our struggles.  He knows about our heart break and our grief.  He sees it all.

Two, that He responds to our needs with compassion.  As our Father, His simultaneous reaction to witnessing our pain is to respond with His comfort, peace and joy.  He loves us so much to provide for our needs.

On our journey in life, we do not walk alone.  We walk with our Father who is prepared to meet our needs as we open our hearts to Him.

Guide My Feet

25 04 2011

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.   Proverbs 3:5-6 (New Living Translation)

Guide my feet, while I run this race – cause I don’t want to run this race in vain. On life’s journey we have to make many decisions. Each step of the way, we are compelled to ask God to direct our steps based on His will for our lives. This scripture and the words to this old spiritual are recognition of the importance of God’s leading in our lives. Even though we may be tempted or convinced to do what we feel is right in our hearts, if it is not aligned with God’s word or His direction, we must think again.  Yielded to His will, we are able to make Godly decisions that create the blessed life He intends for each of us.

Hold my hand, while I run this race – cause I don’t want to run this race in vain.

A Satisfying Life

22 04 2011

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.    John 10:10  (New Living Translation)

This week has been an opportunity to think about God and His gift of His Son.  Jesus came that we might have an abundant life.   When I think about God’s abundance, I imagine having more than enough.  An overflowing supply of the fruits of the Holy Spirit:  peace, joy, love, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.  This translation describes it as a rich and satisfying life.    Another says that He came that we might have everything that we need.

What an indescribable blessing!  This journey into abundance begins with accepting His Son and grows as we mature in our walk with Him.  Wherever we are along the path, I believe there is always more available to us based on our walk with Him.  As we pray, give praise, study His word and walk in His ways, I believe this satisfying life grows. I am so thankful for a risen Savior and that each of us can begin this journey when we open our hearts to Him.

Just for Us

20 04 2011

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.    John 3:16

I believe God’s love for us is immeasurable.  It is hard to imagine how deep and wide His love is for me and for you.   He gave us the gift of His son Jesus and through Him we have the opportunity of salvation.  This precious gift is available to each of us once we accept Jesus as our personal savior.   It is a blessing that  we could not have possibly earned but it is God’s goodness and mercy toward us.   What a joy it is to be in a relationship with our Father who shows us such great love.

Show HIS Love

19 04 2011

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.     John 13:34-35

Showing love is one of the most powerful demonstrations of who we are in Christ. Each day is full of opportunities to show love and concern for the people that cross our paths. The way we answer the phone, the way we respond to a question at work, the way we reach out to others are all opportunities to respond with our love. Each interaction is a chance to show that we care and that there is something different about us. Love should be reflected in our words, our attitudes and our approach to everyday things. As His children, people should see us and know that we are a part of His family. Along life’s journey let us commit to showing His love each day.
