Our Help

3 08 2011

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8

God provides strength and protection for His people. His mercy and love empowers us to continue even when we are tired and need a second wind. I’m so thankful to God that he provides for our needs. The passage today gives us encouragement that our Heavenly Father who made the Heaven and Earth is the same God who provides our help for today. What a blessing that God is with us and provides the strength that we need for this day and the days to come. Our help is in the name of the Lord!

Wherever You Are

2 08 2011

So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.  But his father said to the servants, Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.  St. Luke 15 20-24

At different junctures in my life, I have found myself in places or situations where I knew in my heart I did not belong. I am so thankful for God’s mercy and love that even when we are running from what we know to be true as soon as we acknowledge and turn to Him, He is there with open arms. Some of us are initially runners – think about Jonah or the parable of the Prodigal’s son, which applies to many of us in some way. But even if we find ourselves in the belly of a whale or eating with swine, God’s love for us is extended to us wherever we are. I have heard so many stories where people feel disconnected from God because they feel their circumstances were too hard but as soon as they turned their hearts to God’s a transformation begins that reflects His Holy will for our lives. Wherever you are on the journey – God is available to provide peace, healing and deliverance once we turn our hearts and our will to Him.

GOD is Love

1 08 2011

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.   I John 4:16

Dear Father-

God is Love. Your love brings healing, deliverance and salvation to the world. I thank You for the blessing of Your devotion and attention to my life.  I praise You that each day Your love is wrapped around my life and dwells within me. Help me to show Your love to every person I encounter today. Let kindness and concern radiate through me.  Your love is perfect and complete for me.  Thank You for the gift of Your love.  God is Love.

Amen

Pray and Never Give Up‏

27 07 2011

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.  Matthew 18:1

We thank God for the blessing of today and this moment. God’s blessings of grace, mercy and love have created the opportunity of this day. Whatever the day brings we are able to share our joys and concerns with God through a constant spirit of prayer.  I am so thankful that we can talk to God, from wherever place we find ourselves: needing forgiveness, deliverance, comfort, wisdom or strength. Our God is a very present help, who loves and cares for us. What a blessing it is to know, that even when we are not in church, we don’t feel we have the right words, God hears us.  I remember thinking as a young person that when I know I have not done what is right, that I needed to wait for a special time in church to ask God for forgiveness.  I am so thankful that God hears our prayers anywhere and anytime.  We can maintain an ongoing conversation with God that allows us to express our concerns and our gratefulness for who our Heavenly Father is in our lives.

So as we continue to pray, we must also persevere and don’t faint. In this passage, Jesus encourages us never to give up.  Never is an absolute and is not conditional on our present trials and issues.  We may be in a season where we feel challenged on many sides but we must never give up.  We must continue to trust in God’s Word, God’s Ways and God’s Will for our lives.  Encourage yourself and others on the journey to continue to put our trust in our God and God’s word and never give up.  I have heard that it darkest before daybreak, continue to pray and persevere – Joy does come in the morning.

The New has Come

25 07 2011

Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come.  2 Corinthians 5:17 Good News Translation (GNT)

We thank God for new beginnings.  The change of a month, season and even with the rising of the sun we see a new opportunity that comes with the day.  I am so thankful to God for the blessing of a changed mind.  A heart and mind that is determined to serve Him, seeking to know His way and His will for my life.  This passage is a familiar description of the new creature we become through relationship with Him.  I thank God that as we get closer to Him, he continues to reveal a better way to live, to serve and to exist.  What a blessing it is to experience life with new lenses, a new approach through a closer walk with Jesus Christ.

Dear Father –

We thank you for this day,
this time, this opportunity. We are thankful for your faithfulness to our
lives, guiding our steps and giving us a clear vision of who we are in you as
men and women of God. We thank you for your transformative love that changes my
life and my ways as I put my trust in you. We thank you God for these
blessings. This is the day that you have made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.

We love you Lord.

Your Children

Perfect Freedom

19 07 2011

For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  II Corinthians 3:17

The Holy Spirit is a precious gift.  In the presence of the Lord, we experience in a palpable way, God’s love, God’s peace and God’s deliverance, when our hearts are open to His Word.  Some time ago, one Sunday morning, hearing this scripture ministered to my heart and my soul. It was a turning point for me to acknowledge that freedom from sin, depression and anything not consistent with God’s Word was available to me. I am so thankful for the blessing of liberty in our lives through a relationship with Jesus Christ.  It allows us to have a clearer picture of God’s love for us and His desire for us to be free from deception and obstacles that the enemy may put in our way.  Thanking God today for the blessing of perfect freedom.

Use Two Hands

13 07 2011

“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”  I Thessalonians 5:11

The standard response I receive to the daily inquiries of “How are you?” is “I am hanging in there.” It used to be “I’m fine”. “Hanging in there” seems to indicate that we are doing what we can in what might be challenging times. It is understandable. Many aspects of our lives seem a little more intense – finances, relationships and work. As a result, we need a little more resiliency to keep moving forward. It is important to take even small opportunities to encourage one another. I used to say in response “hang tough”. Now, I try to encourage people to “use two hands”. I hope it is a small acknowledgement, that things may be tough and that I need you to do your best to survive it all. I hope it is a minor but persuasive way to encourage the people that cross my path.

Long as I Live

12 07 2011

I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.  Psalm 63:4

I have so much to be thankful for. We serve a good God who provides both grace and mercy that has blessed my life beyond measure. My heart is full of thanksgiving and I offer my praise to God. He is worthy of all glory and honor. It is such a blessing to be in relationship with Him. What a merciful God that would bless my life in such tremendous ways. I am so thankful that through prayer, praise and worship, we can experience the presence of a living God. His presence brings comfort, deliverance and healing. As long as I live, I seek to live a life that honors Him in every way.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

8 07 2011

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.   Philippians 4:4-9

It turns out that “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” are not just words from a popular song from the late 1980’s. Consider the phrases in Paul’s letter to the Philippians – “Always be full of joy in the Lord’ and “Don’t worry about anything”. These things may seem like pointless initiatives when you have a particular concern before the Lord. You may feel anxious, stressful and even desperate to see some sign that God is moving on our behalf. This is one of my favorite passages that provide important guidance for each of us:

  • Be Full of Joy with double emphasis
  • Be gentle or considerate to every one
  • Know The Lord is near by
  • Don’t worry or be anxious
  • Pray about everything
  • Be grateful for God’s blessings
  • Keep your mind on the things of God
  • Do God’s Work

What is amazing to me is that taking these steps lead to God’s unexplainable peace even during difficult times.

Loved Beyond Measure

7 07 2011

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit, then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should,  how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:14-20 (New Living Translation)

This is one of my favorite prayers, shared in the Bible. Paul is writing to the Ephesians with this heart-filled desire for their lives – to come to an understanding of God’s Love for us. Although His love is immeasurable – too wide, too long, too high and too deep, it is complete and has the power to transform our lives beyond our imagination. It provides strength and power for a fullness of life that comes from God. We have heard it many times that God loves us. Acknowledging this Love in this context allows us to think about how strong, powerful and complete God’s love is for each of us. We are loved beyond measure.
