Our God Provides

27 09 2011

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19  (New Living Translation)

We may experience a gap between what we have and what we need or sometimes a deep chasm between what we have and what we want.

These chapters in our lives are often opportunities to learn, mature and stretch our faith. God’s Word reminds over and over and again of His faithfulness to meeting our needs.  When we think of needs we often think of material needs that money and God’s favor can provide.

But I believe our needs often go deeper – peace, love and contentment – to name a few. What a blessing that we can look to our Father for our needs and even the desires of our hearts as we follow Him.

Every Chance

19 09 2011

I bless God every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise.

I live and breathe God;

If things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy:

Join me in spreading the news; together let’s get the word out.

God met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears.

Look at him; give him your warmest smile.

Never hide your feelings from him.

When I was desperate, I called out, and God got me out of a tight spot.

God’s angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see-how good God is.

Blessed are you who run to him. Worship God if you want the best; worship opens doors
to all his goodness.

Psalms 34:1-9  (Message Bible)

The F Word

16 09 2011

Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it. Faith is the reason we remember great people who lived in the past. Hebrews 11:1-2 New Century Version

Anticipating God’s promises coming to past, can take longer than we would like. We may even feel like we are moving backwards. But Faith (not fear or fainting) “is having confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” God has called us to believe confidently in what He has promised even though it may not be visible. Hebrews 11 is full of examples of people who operated on Faith and not fear despite very difficult circumstances. Some of them were called to make sacrifices that we can’t imagine but in every case, God fulfilled His Word.

I think of the Faith Heroes in my life. Nina Mae Williams, my grandmother who stood tall for Holiness and righteousness, and prayed for her family today and in the future. Those prayers are alive, even though she passed more than two decades ago. She stood tall in the gap for family members who were not believers with prayers and Faith. I thank God for her example and that of my mother, Gene, who prays everyday for her children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren, name by name. What a legacy of love and Faith. They both know the power of prayer and God’s inability to fail.

So today, as we walk this journey, have Faith in God, trust Him with all your heart and don’t depend on what you feel or what you see. God is Faithful to meet our needs.

Nothing

15 09 2011

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears fortoday nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:35-38

God is Love!

A Satisfying Life

14 09 2011

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.  John 10:10 (New Living Translation)

I often think about God and His gift of His Son to us.  Jesus came that we might have an abundant life.  When I think about God’s abundance, I imagine having more than enough. An overflowing supply of the fruits of the Holy Spirit: peace, joy, love, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.  This translation describes it as a rich and satisfying life. Another says that He came that we might have everything that we need.

What an indescribable blessing!  This journey into abundance begins with accepting His Son and grows as we mature in our walk with Him. Wherever we are along the path, I believe there is always more available to us based on our walk with Him. As we pray, give praise, study His word and walk in His ways, I believe this satisfying life grows.  I am so thankful for a risen Savior and that each of us can begin this journey when we open our hearts to Him.

By My Spirit

13 09 2011

You won’t succeed by might or by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Armies. What a high mountain you are! In front of Zerubbabel you will become a plain. He will bring out the topmost stone with shouts of ‘Blessings, blessings on it!’ ” Zechariah 4:6-7

Have you ever wondered how change was going to come about in a situation that you have been praying about?  You may have vacillated from fear to faith and from confidence to doubt in your feelings.  You have even tried to bring about change yourself.  Trying to strategize or force something even though you have no idea about how to bring it about.  The truth is besides walking in full faith, confidence and trust in God, we have wasted our time.  We can’t force it or bring about change with our own power.  But “It is by Lord’s Spirit” that we have the Victory. We serve a God that can speak to the mountains or obstacles in our lives and flatten them out.  He will clear the path for His children to achieve what they have been called to do.  Let’s put our trust in God.

Walking Forward

9 09 2011

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.  Psalm 119:105

It’s another day and our life journey continues.  At certain points along the path, we may begin to question, which steps to make next.  Should I stay on this same traveled road where I know the signs because I have covered this ground before? Or is God leading to me to a less traveled road where I will need to cut my own path? In the past, when I have had to make a decision, there was not a big booming voice from the sky that said “Go this way”.  I have had always had to trust the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit in me and the counsel of God’s people to help me in discovering next steps. We can be assured that as we seek His will for our lives, He will direct our path and His word will shed light on which way to go.  I am preparing to move forward walking in faith wherever God leads.

Walking in Love

8 09 2011

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. I John 4:16

It’s my birthday today. I will celebrate 47 years of life today. What a blessing! Birthdays and other important milestones often means a time of reflection. It may be a time to acknowledge accomplishments and to consider dreams that have yet to come to pass. I am thankful for the many experiences that God has allowed thus far for my life. Some experiences have strengthened me or challenged me to grow and mature. And, hopefully it has allowed me to shed shortcomings. Of course, I have many things yet to experience on my journey and I am blessed and thankful for God’s love for me and the love shown to me by others.

As for the road ahead, I am asking God for clear direction, the courage to go where He is leading and to experience His Peace and Love each step of the way. I have so many people who bring joy and support to my life. I am thankful for each one, family and friends, who show their love and concern for me as we travel along this journey. I extend blessings of love, peace and joy to each of you!

Walking in Joy

7 09 2011

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again-rejoice! Philippians 4:4

Living with a glad heart is a blessed life. Unlike what most people think I believe joy is more than an emotion. It is a conscious decision to recognize God’s blessings in our lives, both big and small. It is hard to think of God’s goodness and not express gladness and praise.

Just think, walking in joy…

  • Is a decision – This is the day which the Lord has brought about; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118: 24
  • Provides strength – a tool for endurance- The Joy of the Lord is my strength. Nehemiah 8:10
  • Shows with a smile – A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken. Proverbs 15: 13
  • Blesses us with the desires of our Hearts – Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Psalm 37: 4

In the passage for today, Paul puts double emphasis on rejoicing in the Lord. It is important for our successful living and our pleasing walk with the Lord.

Walking in Thanks

6 09 2011

In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

We have so much to thank God for. Walking with a thankful heart often can transform our approach to life and the situations that we face.  Even during our greatest challenges it is important to realize that things could be worse but for God’s mercy and concern for us. Spending time thinking about where the Lord has brought us and His faithfulness to meet our needs is a powerful reminder of God’s goodness to us.

As a young person in college, I used to write down the bills that I owed and keep them in my Bible. The amounts at the time looked so insurmountable but as a tither I believed that the Lord would help me to meet every need. I was able to look at these slips of paper some years later each of them represented a testimony of God’s ability to provide for our needs. I realize now that those experiences helped me to build my faith for what I would need later in my journey. We are so thankful for a Faithful Father for who He is in our lives.
