Equal Time

Companions as we are in this work with you, we beg you, please don’t squander one bit of this marvelous life God has   given us.  II Corinthians 6:1 MSG

All of us received a gift of today when we woke up this morning.  Time is the great equalizer of opportunity for those who can decide how we spend our day.  We each get 24 hours, 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds.  It is a precious gift.  Paul in his letter to the Corinthians encourages us to make the most of the life that we have been given.  God’s grace has allowed this time and place to arrive at our doorstep.  We honor God by honoring His gift of time.  We can approach today with gratitude and thanksgiving.  We can ask and seek God’s guidance about maximizing this moment for His will for our lives.  Turning our full attention toward Him, we can listen carefully without the distractions of noise, busyness and the crowds of people in our day.  Listen and live with intention about where we are and where we need to go.  He knew this day would be here.  He is here to help us to see His vision for this day and the days ahead.  We seek today to honor God with a day well lived and a life focused on Him.

Bountiful Earth

6 06 2013

Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. Genesis 1:29

DSCF0551Our Heavenly Father created the earth with a variety of foods that bring nourishment to our bodies. Fruits and vegetables come in a cornucopia of colors and flavors. Leafy green, sunlit yellow, oranges, blues, and fire red are all God’s creations for the bountiful earth. These precious foods offer life giving properties that fuel our bodies for healthy living and strong life. We can be thankful that we know now more than ever, that wise choices in what we eat can have long lasting effects on our bodies and health. The right foods can lead us into health and healing. We are a nation that consumes too much of things that don’t bring health. Our trend in eating has brought about waves of heart disease, cancer and obesity that is wreaking havoc on our lives. Fatty and processed foods have us in a cycle of bad choices that we can break. I have found myself in the same rut but I am thankful that I am learning more about God’s foods – fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains. What if the answer to health and strong living is right in front of us – eating a plant centered diet that feeds our minds and bodies, right from God’s bountiful earth.

His Creation

5 06 2013

From you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalms 139:13-14

IMG_2083It is awesome to think about how the Lord created us. We are the individually designed results of God’s hands. All the different features that make us who we are were created by our Heavenly Father. As a mother, I have experienced first-hand the miracle of pregnancy and birth. What a journey each of us has taken to be knitted in our mother’s womb and to arrive in this world as an individual masterpiece.

In this passage, David describes God’s work as wonderful. On our first reflection, many of us would describe ourselves as something less than wonderful. A laundry list of our faults and imperfections may race through our minds. We may want to dwell on features that are not aligned to society’s standards. But I am thankful for this passage that is a reminder of our God Who created the heavens and the earth and Who created you and me. We can give God praise for His amazing handiwork for we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

Show Me

4 06 2013

Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning,   for I am trusting you.

Show me where to walk,   for I give myself to you.

Psalm 143:8

IMG_2082Each day is an opportunity to walk with renewed spirit with the Lord. Starting the day with a resolve for strong directed steps helps us to maximize our efforts. Spending time in the Word each morning helps us to focus on God’s promises to us. He is our Heavenly Father who loves us beyond what we can imagine. He promises to be with us and to provide for our need. We can put our full faith and trust in Him. He promised to lead and guide us each step of the way and we are thankful. We can stand firmly in faith that He loves us.  He will guide us as we yield our ways and journey to Him.

Show Me the Way

30 05 2013

You will show me the way of life,

granting me the joy of your presence and the

pleasures of living with you forever.

Psalm 16:11

IMG_2084The Holy Spirit is faithful to show us the way of life. We need His guidance to lead us into the Lord’s will and purpose for our existence. His guidance gives us courage to step diligently and consistently on the path. We know that Jesus came that we might have abundant life. His abundance is full of His peace and His joy that is not shaken when we keep our minds on Him. If we find ourselves in place of struggle and uncertainty, we can ask for the Lord’s help to show us the way of Life. His Word is a lamp onto our feet. On His pathway He is with us now and into eternity.

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

Our Vision – The Center of His Will

17 05 2013

Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrew 13:20 -21

DSCF0817God’s Word is a letter to His children about His will for our lives. He desires us to be in relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We are vessels created to provide praise, honor and glory to His name. We are called to spread His love and convey His goodness, wherever we go. We are destined to live our best life as we put our trust in Him and follow His lead into blessed lives that we could not have imagined. Staying in the Center of His will, helps us to stay focused on what is important, what is true, what is lovely and what is pure. Listening for the Holy Spirit’s guidance on next steps and following His direction keeps us in step with God’s will for our lives. In the center, we are experiencing all of His goodness and not toiling on the outskirts of just getting by. It is a place of thriving in Him. We want to get and stay in this blessed place in the Lord.

For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLV

Our Vision – Power and Love

15 05 2013

For God did not give us a spirit of fear.

He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind.     II Timothy 1:7  NLV

DSCF0789It takes courage and strength to step out on faith. The risk of the unknown can raise fear in our hearts but it is not of God. I am thankful for this passage that reminds us that the Lord has provided us with the spirit of power, love and a good mind. The pace and complexity of problems and issues in our world may tempt us to retreat from moving boldly into action but our trust is in the Lord. He is the Strong Tower that provides strength and guidance for His children. We can step boldly into new places because He is with us. We are wrapped in His power and His love to move ahead.

Our Vision – While It is Day

13 05 2013

We need to be energetically at work for the One who sent me here, working while the sun shines. When night falls, the workday is over. For as long as I am in the world, there is plenty of light. I am the world’s Light.  John 9:4-5 MSG

DSCF0778We are so thankful for the opportunity that comes with a new day, a new week. Vision, goals and plans continue to be on my heart and mind. The Lord is so faithful to provide inspiration, ideas and resources to point us in the right direction. Our Heavenly Father provides “God ideas” that compel us to move us forward. We may feel a little unsure if it is the right idea but if God has put it on your heart it is time to step out on faith. Do the research, collect the information, make the call, and register for the class. Do something that moves you closer to your goal. I heard one minister say that if we make the initial steps the idea starts moving toward you. You begin to hear about opportunities. God sends people in our path to make the needed connections. It does require action on our part. It requires us to step out on faith and to do it now. Time continues to march on and it seems that things are moving at even a faster pace. We have “to be energetically at work” doing the work of the Lord, while it is day.

Our Vision – Like an Orchard

9 05 2013

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23 NLV

DSCF0315The Holy Spirit within us manifests itself with the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.   If we have the Holy Spirit these gifts should be evident in our lives.  One translation of this passage says that these gifts come into our lives the same way fruit appears in an orchard.  I remember being in orange orchard in Florida as a child.  I could see countless oranges in every direction for as far as I could see.  This was the first image that came to my mind when I read this passage. If we live God’s Way – the abundance of gifts into our lives will be evident.   What a vision for our best life to have more than enough of the gifts of the spirit -love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  We desire these gifts to appear in abundance in our lives – like an orchard.

But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard – things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.  Galatians 5:22- 24 MSG

Our Vision – Perfect Peace

7 05 2013

You will keep in perfect peace, all who trust in you,

all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.    Isaiah 26:3-4

DSCF0785The gift of God’s peace is priceless. It is a state of mind and heart that reflects a knowing and trusting of Him. It infuses serenity and contentment in the here and now despite the circumstance. It is recognition that God is control and our full faith and trust is in Him. Experiencing His peace is a part of my vision of my best life. Consistent trust in Him, will result in experiencing His perfect peace. We don’t have to be on an emotional roller coaster of ups and downs that changes with the happenings of the day. If we put our solid trust in Him, we can experience His peace that is beyond this world’s understanding. It is His promise to His children.  In a place of peace we can move steadily in our purpose as a bright witness for Him.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7
