Always

27 05 2015

Up a treeAlways be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!

Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do.

Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.

Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:6-9 NLT

Higher Ways

22 05 2015

DSCF0776“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.  For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.  Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT

The Lord’s ways are higher than my very best thinking.  I am thankful that He is full of wisdom and power.  He knows everything concerning His children, now and into the future.  We can look to Him for direction, the ideas and the strategies to move forward in our destiny.  He freely provides wisdom for those who ask for it.  He directs the path of those who want to be led.  He is the Author and Finisher of our Faith. I am thankful that I don’t have to rely on my thinking alone but that the Lord enhances my decisions with the leading of His Holy Spirit. Today, I am careful to seek His higher ways in my life.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5 NLT

Spreading His Peace

28 04 2015

IMG_0128Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.  Ephesians 4:2-3

Our relationships with one another are precious. Each interaction is an opportunity to build, nurture and create stronger bonds. Careful selection of our words and our actions are an acknowledgement of the love, respect and concern that we have for each other. Our busyness of everyday living may open the door to being too busy for the things that matter most. Extending our love and time with our family members, our loved ones and our sisters and brothers in Christ is essential for creating an atmosphere of peace and unity. Our passage today encourages us to make every effort to maintain unity, using peace as the strong glue that binds us together. Patience, gentleness, forgiveness and love are key ingredients required for our success. We need His peace to reign in our relationships, in our families and our communities. As we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, let us spread His peace in our homes, our neighborhoods and our congregations showing the world that the Savior is born and lives inside of us.

How wonderful and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in harmony!
For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil
that was poured over Aaron’s head,
that ran down his beard
and onto the border of his robe.
Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon
that falls on the mountains of Zion.
And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing,
even life everlasting. Psalm 133:1-3

Fan the Flame

13 04 2015

Flames

This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. II Timothy 1:6-7 NLT

We were each born with a God-given purpose. We are equipped with unique abilities that give us all the tools and talents needed to accomplish our assignment. During our life’s journey, we explore and nurture our gifts as we accept the call on our lives for God’s service. We are all called to serve. We may not be called to proclaim God’s Word from a pulpit but in our families, our communities and in our interactions with one another we are to demonstrate God’s love in ways that fulfill our purpose. Our hands, our words, our tasks emanate His love, His compassion, His mercy that exemplify His Son, Jesus Christ. What a tremendous gift to the world to use the gift that is inside of you. You have what it takes to accomplish the task and to carry it through. He made you for this task. He has given you the tools and the talents to make it happen. You are empowered, careful not to embrace fear but to walk in confidence of the God we serve. Our passage today reminds us to keep our gifts active, alive and on fire. We are to fan the flames within us to keep our gifts fueled with the air that it needs to grow and to shine bright. We fan the flames today within us to use our gifts for His Glory.

Dressed

HydrangeasA final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.  Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.   For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.   In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:10-17 NLT

Joy Comes in the Morning

IMG_0160

I give you all the credit, God
you got me out of that mess,
you didn’t let my foes gloat.

God, my God, I yelled for help
    and you put me together.
God, you pulled me out of the grave,
gave me another chance at life
    when I was down-and-out.

All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God!
    Thank him to his face!
He gets angry once in a while, but across
a lifetime there is only love.
The nights of crying your eyes out
give way to days of laughter.

Psalms 30:1-5 MSG

Show Me the Way

13 03 2015

DSCF0547Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:6 NLT

I need His direction.  The Holy Spirit is faithful to show us the way when we seek God’s direction.  Our next steps need to be focused and purposeful.  He can show us the what, how and when to move forward.  I am listening with an open heart and mind.  I am poised in obedience to follow His lead.  I am thanking the Lord in advance for His direction, His leading and His light unto the path ahead.

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105 NLT

Seek Him With Our Whole Heart

says the Lord.

“They are plans for good and not for disaster,

to give you a future and a hope.

In those days when you pray, I will listen.

If you look for me wholeheartedly,

you will find me.

Something New

23 02 2015

crocus snowFor I am about to do something new.  See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness.    I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.  Isaiah 43:19

We are on the brink of something new.  Our Heavenly Father seeks to create vibrant life in the dry and stagnant places in our lives.  He wants to revive the broken places in our hearts and minds and transform them into something new.  Newness is a starting place for a life that we could not have imagined.  It is a space where peace and purpose thrive.  Newness can completely replace the old patterns of thinking and the old broken cycles of behavior that keep us stuck.  It’s a new day.  It’s a new time for our lives.  Let us fully welcome the Lord into our hearts and into every aspect of our lives.  It’s time for something new and we are thankful.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!  II Corinthians 5:17

Got Fruit?

20 02 2015

Muwin-Estates-OrchardBut what happens when we live God’s way?

He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard

—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity.

We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart,

and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people.

We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments,

not needing to force our way in life,

able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

Galatians 5:22-23 MSG
