On the Vine

“I flowers and greeneram the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.  He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you.  Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”  John 15:1-4 NLT

Jesus is the Vine that gives life and allows us to produce fruit.  When I think of the nourishment that comes from being connected to the Lord, it gives us the ultimate food and water for our souls.  Maintaining a place of connectedness helps us to receive what we need to flourish in our living.  Jesus describes us as the branches that need to be productive and bear fruit.  We are able to reach this place of thriving when we are abiding in His word and His ways.  He describes a time of pruning and refinement that may come but it will only make us better.  Pruning is difficult, taking away the parts of us that are not needed.   Staying in faith and trusting in Him, we will come back even stronger and more vibrant at the end of the process.  The loving Gardner is always seeking to put us in a place where we can receive even more of Him and thrive.
