Get Busy

10 05 2011

He told them, “The harvest is large, but the workers are few. So ask the Lord who gives this harvest to send workers to harvest his crops.”    Luke 10:2 (God’s Word Translation)

Dr. William Cosby was the speaker at Hampton’s Commencement Exercises this weekend.  He weaved words of wisdom and wit into a beautiful speech to encourage the young graduates, embarking on a new chapter of their lives. His words were relevant to them and to me even though I am more than two decades into my career.  As a graduate, sitting in my cap and gown, I had so many aspirations. Some I have been blessed to realize and others somehow have fallen by the wayside. On the other hand, some achievements and experiences that have come to past, I could not have imagined. But yet there are still more – more dreams, more work, more to accomplish and more to experience in the days ahead. Dr. Cosby provided a gentle and timely reminder that we all need to get busy. We may see problems in our communities. We need to get busy with our time, talents and effort.  We should do our best to tutor, mentor, encourage or start businesses with a sense of empowerment. We need to do our best with what we have, while it is day…
